Colour and Room Function
Here we look specifically at how colours can be used to support the room function. Let us consider what is needed on a staircase. Ascending and descending are quite different activities. Ascending requires that little extra burst of energy that warm colours so ably provide. Descending however is all about balance and stability and here the cool colours are important.
The challenge of the staircase is then to bring the cool and warm colours into a functional harmony. Look at these four staircases - all quite different in character and in colour - yet each one is a response to the challenge.
